Priorities for District 27

Hamilton County Is Home

Born and raised in Hamilton County, Tony Hullender has spent a lifetime in service to his country as a U.S. Army officer, to his clients as a litigation attorney, and to all Tennesseans as a prosecutor of Medicaid fraud in the State Attorney General's office. Now, after 27 years on Signal Mountain and a career built on discipline, integrity, and results, Tony is ready to bring that same dedication to District 27 in Nashville. His platform is rooted in the values that have guided him throughout his life: a strong community, personal freedom, and a government that works for the people it serves

    • Tony will focus on pocketbook issues that are important to residents of District 27 and all Tennesseans. He is pro-business because helping businesses establish themselves and thrive in the district benefits all residents, as businesses pay taxes and employ residents. 

    • Tony wants to find ways to control and reduce the cost of essential goods and services such as health care, childcare, and senior care. His time as a senior executive in the health insurance industry and nine years of civilly prosecuting Medicaid fraud provide him with valuable insights into the health care and senior care industries. Tony’s wife, Tina, stayed at home with their children, but he has been shocked by how much his daughter and son-in-law have had to pay for child care while they both work.  

    • Tony is committed to maintaining Tennessee’s status as one of the most fiscally responsible and lowest-taxed states in the country.  

    • Tony strongly supports and respects law enforcement. He worked extensively with law enforcement during his nine years in the Medicaid fraud division of the Tennessee Attorney General’s office.  

    • Tony and his wife raised two children, and his daughter is an elementary school teacher. He wants to ensure that our schools are safe. 

    • Tony believes not every problem should be solved by government intervention; in fact, passing a law to solve a problem should be a last resort. 

    • If elected, he will advocate for focusing government resources and legislation on issues that actually matter to most people, not fringe issues that are only important to a tiny minority.  

    • Tony will fight against unfair government mandates on citizens.  

    • Tony thinks it is important to keep compensation for Tennessee school teachers competitive with other states and to eliminate unnecessary expenses. 

    • Tony wants to make sure schools follow a curriculum that fosters learning of critical life skills like reading and math, and that teachers are not burdened with a politically motivated curriculum that eats up valuable instruction time with little return.  

    • Tony supports and believes we should increase programs to teach blue-collar skills outside of the traditional academic environment, especially now that the cost of a college education has become astronomical, and many young people with a college degree wind up working in a job that does not require a college degree.  

    • Tony has been a conservative Republican for his entire adult life, casting his first vote for Ronald Regan in 1980. 

    • Tony supports Tennessee’s strong Second Amendment laws.  He is an Army veteran and has had a concealed carry permit since before the enactment of Tennessee’s Permitless Carry Law. 

    • Tony is pro-life, and if elected, would not seek to weaken Tennessee’s anti-abortion laws, which are some of the strictest in the country.  

    • Tony supports strong enforcement of our immigration laws and applauds the success that President Trump has had in closing our border and deporting dangerous illegal immigrants.
